FAQs

General FAQs

How long does the product last?

We recommend consuming our EVOO within 2 years of harvesting. The sooner the better.

Where do I store my EVOO?

EVOO keeps best when stored outside of direct sunlight.

Can I cook with EVOO?

Of course! Our EVOO has a high smoke point, often exceeding 200 degrees Celsius, meaning it’s uses are extensive and a great healthy alternative to frying with unhealthy alternative oils.

What is the difference between olive oil and extra virgin olive oil?

Unlike olive oil, EVOO has considerable processing laws in Australia. In order to legally sell a bottle labelled EVOO, there must be no chemicals used during processing and there are strict guidelines as to the temperature the oil can be extracted at. Due to these laws, olive oil producers will often take the pommus (by-product of EVOO) and heavily process it to strip as much remaining oil as possible unfortunately, by this stage all the goodness has gone.

What are the main differences between EVOO and vegetable oil?

Vegetable oil is a bit of a myth.. In fact there are no vegetables used in the process of making vegetable oil, rather canola, soybeans, cotton seeds, sunflower seeds.. The list goes on. Unlike EVOO, vegetable oil is highly processed and uses both heat and chemical extraction, meaning the end product lacks all the goodness you are served in a bottle of EVOO.

Shipping FAQs

Where do you ship?

We currently ship all over Australia.

How much is shipping?

All orders over $100 receive free shipping. If your order total falls below that amount, a standard $10 flat rate occurs.

I have only received part of my order, what should I do?

In order to get our products to you, we use the help of Sendle. Sendle scan all boxes separately so if your order requires more than one mailing box - whilst unlikely - it is possible they process them on different days. In these rare circumstances it is likely that your remaining items will arrive as soon as the following day.

Health FAQs

How is EVOO healthy if it is fatty?

EVOO is made up of monounsaturated fatty acids and whilst the name suggests one thing, the reality is that this type of fat has an abundance of health benefits ranging from weight loss, reduced risk of heart and brain disease to decreased inflammation.

How does EVOO help with brain health?

We are constantly excited by the ongoing results research brings to light regarding brain health and EVOO. One of the most positive results of including EVOO in your diet is increased growth of 2 critical brain chemicals - brain-developed neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor. In simpler terms, EVOO encourages the repair of damaged brain cells and growth of new cells. This can result in reduced stress, an increased ability to transmit information (e.g., processing sight and sound) and improved memory and information intake.

I have an olive grove on my property, how do i acquire help with maintenance?

Main Ridge Olive Company offers a leading olive grove maintenance service, and we would love to help you achieve your goals on your property. Visit our ‘grove maintenance’ page to connect.

My grove is not producing many olives this year, are the trees too old?

Olive trees have an incredible ability to continually produce fruit over the span of hundreds of years meaning age is unlikely to ever be the initial problem. We would suggest reviewing your yearly grove management plan. Are you pruning after each harvest? Do the trees have a sufficient water supply? Have you investigated the health of your soil?

Our team has expert experience in not only managing producing groves, but also repairing groves that have not received the appropriate care. Visit our ‘grove maintenance’ page for details on how we can assist with your grove.

I think my trees may carry a disease, can you help advise on this?

It is possible that your grove may be experiencing symptoms of disease or pests. Most commonly detected on the Mornington Peninsula is the infestation of black scale - a black powdery coating found on the tree’s leaves. This amongst other issues can directly impact the ability to produce fruit but if not handled properly could cause the trees irreparable damage.

Main Ridge Olive Company has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating tree diseases - all of which are chemical and pesticide free. If you wish to speak to us, we can provide a free grove visit and consult, visit our ‘grove maintenance’ page for more details.
